As Thailand attracts more international visitors, English has become more important to everyday Thais. I spent seven months as a teacher of English at an independent Catholic School in rural Thailand. I designed lesson plans and school-wide presentations for 250 students between the ages of 5 and 9. Although my lessons were grammar based, they included a lot of language based activities and games – it’s important to know your customer, no matter what age! During this time, I traveled at every opportunity and learned how to flourish in a country where I did not speak the language.
